Teaching First Aid and Saving Lives
Over 50% of children in the UK lack basic first aid skills, and would be unable to help at the scene of an accident. According to a recent survey conducted for the British Red Cross and Toyota by the Children's Forum, 60% of children lack the knowledge to be able help themselves and others at the scene of a road accident. The children surveyed were between 9 and 13 years old, the age range most at risk of injury on the road. Over 1,800 children in this group are killed or seriously injured in road accidents every year, and many lives could be saved if first aid is given before the emergency services arrive. Schoolchildren are eager to turn this around, with 94% of them wanting to learn more about first aid.
